  • As was announced earlier today, the 2016 ECHO Klassik Award for Female Singer of the Year will go to Anna Netrebko for her triumphant performance as Lady Macbeth in Verdi’s Macbeth, recorded live in HD at the Metropolitan Opera in 2014 and released on DVD and Blu-ray by Deutsche Grammophon in 2015.

    Presented annually by the Deutsche Phono-Akademie, the ECHO Klassiks recognize extraordinary recordings by classical artists. This addition to Anna’s mantle marks her fourth time being named Female Singer of the Year (previous wins took place in 2014, 2005, and 2004). This year’s award also makes for her eleventh ECHO Klassik.

    The 2016 awards ceremony will be held on October 9 at Berlin’s Konzerthaus, with a broadcast on ZDF scheduled for 22:00 local time.
