  • The Metropolitan Opera just announced  that Anna Netrebko will headline the opening night of the company's 2012-13 season a new production of Donizetti's comic masterpiece, L'elisir d'amore, directed by Tony Award-winner Bartlett Sher. Conducted by Maurizio Benini, the cast also will feature Matthew Polenzani as Nemorino, Mariusz Kwiecien as Belcore, and Ambrogio Maestri as Dulcamara. The performances will mark the first time the Russian soprano brings her critically acclaimed portrayal of Adina to the New York—although she sang one act from the Met's former production as part of a gala celebrating the company's 40th anniversary at Lincoln Center—as well as her second consecutive season opening night following her star turn as the title character in Donizetti's Anna Bolena last September.
