Yusif Eyvazov

Yusif Eyvazov is Azerbaijani dramatic tenor, who completed his advanced studies in Italy. There he took part in master classes with renowned opera singers such as tenor Franco Corelli and soprano Ghena Dimitrova. Since then there is hardly a major opera house that has not yet invited him to sing, including the Berlin, Munich and Vienna State Operas, Milan’s La Scala, Opera National de Paris, Royal Opera House, Metropolitan Opera, Bolshoi and Mariinsky theatres etc. The unique sound of his voice, described as “metallic, stentorian and markedly Italianate” (L.A. Times), and outstanding stage presence allow him to combine active opera career with frequent concert performances.

Yusif Eyvazov kicks off his 18/19 season as Dick Johnson (La Fanciulla del West) at the Metropolitan Opera. Following this he will be seen at the Bolshoi Theatre as Herman (The Queen of Spades) and in the title role of Don Carlo. Then he will go back to Europe to perform Don Alvaro (La forza del destino) at Royal Opera House and the title tole role of Andrea Chenier at Vienna State Opera. On the concert stage together with his wife, soprano Anna Netrebko, the tenor will be heard at Formentor Sunset Classics in Mallorca, Kölner Philharmonie, opening of the concert-hall Zaryadye in Moscow, Knight Concert Hall in Miami, KKL Luzern, Alte Oper in Frankfurt and Elbphilharmonie Hamburg. He finishes the 18/19 season, performing Maurizio (Adriana Lecouvreur) in concert at the Salzburg Festival.

In the 17/18 season Yusif Eyvazov and Anna Netrebko had the release of new cross-over album “Romanza” for Deutsche Grammophon. In September and October they toured across Asia, Australia and New Zealand, including cities such as Dubai, Tokyo, Nanjing, Seoul, Melbourne and Sydney. Then Yusif Eyvazov had a successful debut at Teatro alla Scala in the title role of Andrea Chenier. In 17/18 he could be also seen at Bolshoi Theatre as Des Grieux (Manon Lescaut), at Covent Garden and Mariinsky theatre as Macduff (Macbeth), at Staatsoper Berlin as Cavaradossi (Tosca), Opera National de Paris as Manrico (Il Trovatore) and Arena di Verona as Radames (Aida). He gave concerts at Monte Carlo, Moscow, Minsk, Zagreb, London, Würth, Lübeck and Salzburg and finished the 17/18 season with an extensive tour throughout South America, including cities such as Santiago, Sao Paulo, Lima and Buenos Aires.

In the 2016/17 season, Yusif Eyvazov made a series of important debuts including Macduff (Macbeth) at Bayerische Staatsoper, the title role of Andrea Chenier at the Prague Opera and Maurizio (Adriana Lecouvreur) at the Mariinsky Theatre. On the concert stage, alongside Anna Netrebko, he was in Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne, Sochi, Budapest, Moscow, Paris, Muscat, Calgary and Toronto. He appeared also on Anna Netrebko’s recording “Verismo”, released by Deutsche Grammophon in September 2016.

Yusif Eyvazov’s other recent performances include Calaf (Turandot) at the Metropolitan Opera and the Vienna State Opera, Radames (Aida) and Des Grieux (Manon Lescaut) for the Salzburg Festival, Canio (I Pagliacci) at Los Angeles Opera, Faust (Mefistofele) at the Prague State Opera and Otello for the Ravenna Music Festival.

On March 9, 2017, Yusif Eyvazov was awarded the title of “People‘s Artist of Azerbaijan”.
